When I was first dating after my divorce, I had a date show up to happy hour directly after coming from work (he owned a construction company) in I-$hit-you-not a neon yellow work hoodie, mud on his jeans, and his work boots. I love a self-made man, but showing up to the date in such disarray showed an immense lack of effort (or thought) on his part. There was no second date.
