3 Questions To Ask Before Starting A Long-Distance Relationship

You've taken the plunge into the world of online dating post-divorce, and it's been… a little daunting.

On the dating app, you set your preferences within a 15-mile radius, but alas, the pool of eligible singles is slim pickings.

So you expand to 30 miles, but still no luck

The ‘you’ve seen all the people nearby’ message pops up on the app and asks if you want to change your filters.

You can practically hear your ex snickering in the background.

As you debate whether 45 miles is pushing it or not, you realize you need to consider something more significant: how far is too far to date?

Is an hour's drive reasonable, OR are you willing to travel three hours to find love? And what about someone in a different state entirely?

Before you start filling up your gas tank for a long-distance relationship, take a step back and ask yourself three essential questions before jumping in.

1. What are your motivations?
Are you seeking companionship, intimacy, or emotional support? Or are you trying to fill a void left by your divorce? Knowing your reasons can help you determine if a long-distance relationship is the right fit for you.

2. What are your expectations for the relationship?
Would you be open to relocating or expect a future partner to? Long-distance relationships require a lot of effort and commitment, so it's crucial to be realistic about what you want and need from the relationship.

3. Are you emotionally ready for a long-distance relationship?
Divorce can be traumatic, so it's essential to take time to heal before pursuing a new relationship. Make sure you're prepared to handle the challenges of long-distance communication and that you have the emotional bandwidth to support a partner who is physically distant.

Remember, taking the time to reflect on these questions can help you decide if a long-distance relationship is right for you.
